We have almost 2,000 US troops in Syria. “It’s clear that as the U.S. and Israel have escalated conflicts in the region, it’s put U.S. troops in Syria in further danger. They are sitting ducks for U.S. ‘adversaries,’” said a former congressional staffer who has worked on Syria policy for over a decade. “There are times when it’s worth it for U. S. service members’ lives to be put at risk. That’s why you have a military. But that’s also the reason that the framers of the Constitution said that Congress has the power to declare war. There needs to be a debate and vote.”
The 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) has been used to deploy U.S. troops in several countries, including:
• Afghanistan: 2001–2021.
• Djibouti: 2002–2010 and 2015– 2024.
• Iraq: 2004–2009 and 2014– 2024.
• Libya: 2013 and 2015 – 2024.
• Pakistan: 2003.
• Somalia: 2007 and 2012– 2024.
• Syria: 2014–2024.
• Yemen: 2002–2006 and 2012–2021. The U.S. is now Bombing the Houthis in Yemen.
Call Congress to vote for:
S.1061 & H.R.2501 And repeal the 2001 Congressional Authorization for Use of Military Force
